When I’m writing, it’s the fingers that originate words. Each letter is evoked thoughtlessly, a physical response, as automatic as breath. If I stop to think about it, the neural sparks that move words invisibly from eye to screen stutter to a stop and the keyboard ceases to be kinetic — pure musculature — and becomes a visual thing apart from me.

Summer of my Amazing Luck

So, I’ve never seen a bad play. There’s just so much in how the staging is done, in how space is occupied, etc. There’s something about the breathing presence of live actors that gives a performance tension; I always feel tied to the actors on stage, and experience them as physical entities, unlike television, where you are a passive witness to slim projections of light and colour. It’s the difference between observing a live person and a facsimile.

Updates

I have a new web site. But I guess that’s obvious…

My new novel is coming out!

Insomniac has set a tentative date for the new novel’s appearance. 2007. That means, for the next couple months, I’m focusing on editing the new novel and … finding a better title than “new novel.” Beginning in September, I’m going to be working with an editor who is awesome at karaoke….

And I started a new writing project in July. It’s too new to talk about and different from the work I usually find myself gravitating towards. So, the new project is only three months old and it’s had three titles so far! That’s all I’m permitted to say.
